STEAM Programs for Kids
Black Rocket is a Science Technology Engineering Arts & Math (STEAM) program designed to expose kids to STEAM or to expand kids’ experiences. There are a variety of workshops that you can take over the summer or on Saturdays during the school year. Our kids are both extremely interested in science and math, so we love giving them these opportunities to be around like-minded children.
Black Rocket
Review by: Josephine Breslin
When I first got to Black Rocket, I was very nervous. I was going there for a Saturday workshop at the Montgomery College Campus (in Rockville) and I didn’t know what to expect. By the beginning of my first class, “YouTube Content Creators”, my nervousness subsided because the instructors were super nice, made it easy to learn, and were super easygoing. In the afternoon, I had Java Script Coders. It wasn’t easy, but I learned a lot about Java script.
The day was well-run and organized. I didn’t feel confused about where to go. The instructors guided us step by step and helped us if we had problems. Although I would have preferred more instructors (because there was only one for about 10 kids), it was really fun.
Highlights:
Each workshop was two and a half hours long, split up by lunch in the middle. Time passed really quickly but we were able to get a lot done.
The instructors were nice and pushed us to do well without being strict or harsh.
It was cool to be on a College campus and to use their facilities (and great that the people running the program were there to keep us from getting lost!).
